FYN - Interactive Materiality

FYN, is an interactive material developed during the Interactive Materiality course. FYN captivates with its organic movement, as the rubbery, shiny-finished strings create subtle friction, causing the fringes to shift and flow naturally. The design invites a tactile exploration—your hand is gently guided along its surface, engaging in rhythmic, circular motions that grow in intensity as you interact. Over time, FYN accumulates in different areas, drawing the user’s attention inward and fostering a deeper sensory connection.

FYN is a response to the material turn in interaction design, embracing a hands-on approach to material exploration. By mapping and uncovering the intrinsic properties of materials, the design process reveals their potential for interactive use. These material properties and aesthetic theory shape an iterative synthesis, guiding the creation of an engaging and responsive interactive system. Through continuous detailing and refinement, FYN represents a finely tuned human-machine interaction that is aesthetically intriguing and materially driven.
